Initial Support for Cosmetics

Not available yet on Quest

Hey guys!

This patch took a little longer to get out than I wanted, so thanks for bearing with me. I’m still learning a lot about the game development process, so I’ve been trying to take things a bit slowly and carefully. There were some issues with the way I was validating cosmetics, so it turns out to be lucky that it took me a little bit longer, since if I had released this late last week, there’s a good chance it would have exploded immediately. There’s still a good chance it will explode right now. I really hope that doesn’t happen!|

This patch includes initial support for cosmetics. I think they look pretty great! I wouldn’t exactly consider myself an artist, but I’m really pleased with how they turned out. I hope you guys like them too! Right now, this is not available on the native quest; that is, you can see other people wearing the cosmetics, but you won’t be able to buy them yourself. There are some technical limitations behind this, namely that right now, I can’t directly sell add-ons for money on App Labs. I don’t want to create a parallel account system in order to support that since I’d need to build out a way to create a separate account, validate your purchase, and hook it up to your Quest somehow, none of which I already know how to do (so I’d need to learn), and this would take a huge amount of time and effort, which I’d rather spend working on the game directly. I’m hoping this will become possible sooner rather than later, so I really appreciate your patience.

There are also a bunch of QOL changes in this update, like push to talk/push to mute, a little speaker icon next to your name when you’re talking, a new queue, ways to join matches with your friends, and more. For details, please read all the patch notes. Basically, with this patch, I’m hoping that I can keep working on a lot of the rough edges currently in the game. I want to make it a more smooth process for people to play the game the way they want, including trying to make it easier for good players to play against other good players, and for everyone to be able to play with their friends more easily.

As for what’s next, now that the App Labs version is out, I’m hoping that it will be easier for me to do some more consistent, smaller patches since it should be much less of a pain in the butt to get the game updated. Right now, I’m working on some more granular reporting (so you can be more specific as to whether your report is about someone being bigoted, cheating, harassing certain players, grieving lobbies, and things like that), so it isn’t one big catch-all. I’m also working on a new canyon map that’s going to focus more on wall jumps, I’m really excited about it and I think it’ll be super cool.

All that said, I have one bad piece of news. I’m unfortunately currently stuck in a hotel in quarantine. I’ve had a pretty big family issue crop up, and while I don’t want to get into details for personal reasons, I thought it would only be fair to let you guys know that it’s going to impact my ability to get stuff out. I brought everything I need to keep working on the game, so I’m still going to be doing that, but I thought I’d let you guys know because it’s going to slow me down. I really appreciate all the support you’ve given me so far in terms of playing and sharing the game, and I’m really excited about the future of the game, but at the end of the day, family comes first. I’m hoping everything turns out ok and things can get back to normal soon. Thanks for your understanding, and I hope you enjoy the patch!

  • Initial support for cosmetics! currently, the DLC is only available on steam. I can’t sell any DLC yet on Quest, so people playing there will have to wait. I appreciate your patience on this, I’m working on it!
  • Revamped the computer. Now you change tabs with an up and down button on the left side of the keyboard.
  • Added a new group tab. This will let you join public matches together with other players. While in a private room, gather everyone you want to join together next to the computer. Then, choose either the forest or cave map with the option buttons. Then press Enter, and you’ll all be brought into a new room together.
  • Added a new queue, competitive, for people looking for more of a challenge. Go to the computer, go to the queue tab, then press option 2 to select it! By default, players start in the default queue. You can go back to it by selecting option 1.
  • Added an icon on the scoreboard that appears next to the name of someone when they’re talking, this should make it easier to figure out who’s speaking at any given time.
  • Added push-to-talk/push-to-mute options for the mic.
  • Added a new upper room for cosmetics. It includes a mirror so you can marvel at your new look. Flashy!
  • Fixed the slow fall bug that happened if you used smooth locomotion and constantly rotated as you fell.
  • Updated the Photon integration, hopefully, this will fix some issues where people are having trouble connecting when they’re behind certain types of networks.
  • Added a new path to the mines from the Crystal Cavern in the cave level. There should now be a more natural transition from the two areas available. I might do a similar thing on the opposite side of the cave, please let me know what you think.
  • Fixed an issue where if you disconnected ungracefully, like through being AFK or getting kicked by Photon because your connection was unstable, you could no longer join any rooms. Now, even if that happens, you should be able to join a room like normal.
  • Added some background checks that should make rooms more stable and make it more difficult for them to end up in a state where nobody could get tagged and the round wouldn’t end.
