We’ve heard your concerns about safety and access in the game, and we’re working to make Gorilla Tag better for all players. That’s why we’re rolling out a new system for providing age-appropriate experiences with the help of k-ID. Here’s what you need to know:
🔹 When you log in, you’ll be prompted to use the thumbsticks to set your age.
🔹 Depending on the age you provide and your location (as derived from your IP address), you’ll get an age-appropriate experience.
IMPORTANT: If you’re playing on your parent’s or guardian’s Meta account, please set up your own unique Meta account, with your parent’s or guardian’s permission, to play Gorilla Tag on their headset.

- Q: Why is Gorilla Tag doing this?
- A: Fair question! Our top priorities are keeping the game fun and following regulatory requirements around the world. We've also heard feedback from players and their parents or guardians who share similar concerns, so we're taking steps to improve the experience for everyone. k-ID is the best in class for supporting game teams with age-appropriate design: we have partnered with them so we can focus on building the best games for you!
- Q: How does k-ID work?
- A: k-ID uses country and state location info to make sure you get the right experience based on local laws. For example, in the United States, some users will have a different experience due to laws like the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Other jurisdictions around the world have different rules and age thresholds. Where parental permission is needed, it can be done quickly and seamlessly through the k-ID web app.
- Q: Why does k-ID ask for my parent’s credit card? Can we use k-ID without a credit card?
- A: k-ID offers a few different parental verification methods, including a credit card, to make sure the person granting consent is actually an adult. Depending on local law, parents or guardians may also have access to other methods like entering personal details or completing an ID or face scan (where available). Credit card info is only used for verification and isn’t stored. In some locations, there might be a super tiny charge (up to $0.50) which gets refunded! If it takes a few days, don’t worry - it depends on your bank.
- Q: Is k-ID collecting my info?
- A: Another Axiom shares limited data like your age, jurisdiction, and online IDs such as your platform ID with k-ID. k-ID will also ask your parent or guardian for additional information solely to verify their age and manage their permissions. - Q: How does k-ID keep info secure?
- A: k-ID uses trusted third-party processors like Stripe and Veratad to run parent verification checks, and neither k-ID nor its processors store the information used to verify a parent’s age. k-ID is also certified by the ESRB Privacy Certified and UK Age Check Certification Schemes. - Q: How often will my parents or guardians need to use k-ID?
- A: Just once for setup and initial verification. After that, they can manage your online experience through the k-ID family portal. No more pop-ups after signing in.

- A: No, we hope this allows players to access more features while fostering a safer and more compliant environment for all players. With k-ID, parents and guardians get to customize their kid’s experience, instead of requiring us to make one-size-fits-all rules. For example, one parent might decide it’s ok for their kid to play online with voice chat, but another kid might only have monke sounds. - A: The goal with k-ID is to provide a long-term solution for age-appropriate design. We’re aiming to make this a solid fix, not just another hoop for players to jump through. We’ve listened to your concerns, and have worked closely with k-ID to address them in this new rollout.
- Q: What kind of parent/guardian controls does k-ID add?
- A: With k-ID, parents or guardians can use a family dashboard to manage:
- Voice chat
- Custom usernames
- Joining groups
- Access to the Virtual Stump (User Generated Content)
- Q: Can I play Gorilla Tag without using k-ID?
- A: We need everyone’s age in order to provide a legally-compliant experience. But we’ve designed k-ID’s integration to be as fast and seamless as possible for all players.
- Q: Can I play while my parents or guardians are setting up k-ID?
- A: Yes, you can still play! Younger players can continue to play with some features disabled: once your parent or guardian finishes the verification process, they will be able to unlock these features for you.
- Q: Do I have to do this every time I play?
- A: No, it’s a one-time setup! Once you provide your age, logging in is seamless. But if you have multiple accounts or create a new account, you’ll need to provide your age for those accounts too.
- Q: Is Gorilla Tag implementing k-ID only for North America?

- A: k-ID is here to keep you safe and make things easier for your parents or guardians. In the meantime, younger players can still play while they wait for parental consent, just with some features disabled.
- Q: Can I change my age or location on k-ID?
- A: If you submitted the wrong age or have since moved, please submit a support ticket to us. Your info needs to be accurate since it’s tied to legal stuff.
- Q: Will k-ID slow down the game or cause lag?
- A: Nope! It’s only used during sign-up. Your gameplay won’t be affected. If you have issues, contact a mod or submit a ticket.
